Many killed as insurgents raze down 5 communities near Maiduguri

Suspected Boko haram insurgents have killed several people while hundreds fled their homes when the insurgents attacked villages in Konduga Local government area of Borno State last night, sources said.

Daily Trust gathered that the insurgents stormed Kofa and Bulabbrin at 7:50pm yesterday, shouting “Allah is great” while opening fire on villagers and killing many in the process. They also razed down the villages.

An eyewitness who fled Kofa village to Dalori quarter, said many people were killed while dozens sustained gunshot wounds.

“They came to our village (Kofa) after evening prayer and started shooting. There was confusion, we CJTF [Civilian Joint Task Force] engaged them but they used anti aircraft guns so we ran for our lives, but we later went back. We counted at least, 6 dead bodies including my father and dozens were seriously injured.

“They have completely raze down the whole Kofa village, even Bulabbrin village, I can’t say the casualties figure in Bulabbrin but many might have lost their lives,” he said.

Another source disclosed that three other communities were equally raze down after they succeeded unchallenged in Kofa.

“The insurgents, walking freely unchallenged by the troops, many currently roaming on Bama / Maiduguri highway, it is dark they don’t have where to sleep, as many are currently looking for their family members.

“We just got reports from our member in some villages in Konduga local government that they attacked three villagee; Gozari, Ngomari, Alhaji Mallumti villages between 8-9:50pm this night.

“Hundreds of villagers had been displaced, they are currently in Dalori quarter areas,” Vigilante source told Daily Trust by phone.

It was gathered that many residents of Dalori quarter could sight the flames from their homes.

As at filing this report, no confirmation from police or military yet.
