Many feared dead as bus plunges into river

Many people were missing on Friday along Akaeze-Ishiagu highway in Akaeze Development Centre, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State when a passenger bus plunged into a river along the road.

Residents said an Enugu-bound bus conveying people from a burial ceremony in Ebonyi State tried to overtake a trailer before a bridge but ran into the river when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It got submerged as soon as it entered the river, witnesses said.

The police spokesman, Loveth Odah, described the incident as very unfortunate, saying five persons were rescued from the river, as efforts to rescue more continued at press time Friday.
