Many bandits, 3 cops, 2 vigilantes die in gun duel in Niger

Three police officers and two members of the vigilante group have reportedly lost their lives in a gun battle with bandits at Kwanar-Dutse, a community in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the killing in a statement in Minna, said scores of bandits were also killed during the gun duel.

Abiodun said the command received information on the movement of bandits along Bangi-Mangoro Road in Mariga Local Government on Monday and immediately mobilised the tactical teams and vigilantes to go after the criminals.

He said, “As a result, scores of the bandits were neutralised while others escaped into the forest with a bullet injury. Unfortunately, during the gun battle with bandits, three policemen and two vigilante members among the team lost their lives.”
