Manufacturers, SMEs trained on how to utilize trade scheme

The National Unit of the Economic Community of west African State (ECOWAS) at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja has commenced the sensitization of manufacturers and Small, medium scale entrepreneurs based in Kano on how to take maximum benefit of ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme (ETLS).

At the opening session, the head of ECOWAS National Unit, Mr J.U Oyi, said the scheme which intends to encourage intra-regional trade and boost the economy, also provided an opportunity for beneficiaries to export commodities without payment of duties.

According to him, the scheme promotes local manufacturing of goods, paves way for Nigerian goods, which are usually of higher quality, to compete with that of ECOWAS member states as well as create opportunities for a larger market for Nigerian goods.
