Manchester City are closing in on the transfer of Jorginho having beaten Manchester United and Liverpool to his signature, reports claim.
Pep Guardiola is keen to get City’s summer business done early and he is prioritising two key signings – a deep-lying midfielder and a forward.
City tried to strengthen both positions in January, and Jorginho is set to become their first signing of the summer, according to Goal.
While the conclusion of any deal for a forward is some way off, Jorginho’s move is likely to be completed before the World Cup starts.
Having held numerous talks with the Italy international’s agent, City bosses are now convinced he is the right man to add to their squad and to ultimately replace Fernandinho.
The 26-year-old was tracked by many of Europe’s top clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United both trying to convince him to join them, but he has opted for a move to the Etihad.
