Man with special needs found 172 days after disappearing

A 25-year-old man with special needs, Samuel Igbekhue, who went missing in Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja, on March 6, 2022, has been found.

Samuel was said to have left home in the early hours of Sunday, March 6, 2022, informing his sister that he was going to church, but was not seen thereafter till he was brought home by a man from Mararaba in Nasarawa State.

A family member, Hadiza Hayatudeen, told City & Crime that the incident was reported at the police stations in Phase 4 and Byazhin area of Kubwa.

She said after failed attempts to find the man, family members started their own search by putting up posters and giving out flyers about his missing.

On how he was found, Hadiza said, “I got a call from my sister, saying that our brother had been brought back home by some good Samaritans.”

She quoted the man who brought him as saying: “The man was involved in a violent altercation which led to him inflicting injury on the other persons’ head and as a result he was beaten and taken to a police station.

“From there, I decided to be responsible for him and I took him in. After many failed attempts to locate his family, he became comfortable until these past few days when he insisted he wanted to go home.

“He mentioned Arab Road in Kubwa and we decided to bring him back since he was certain he lived around the area.

“On getting to the area, he took us to his sister’s shop, but she was not around at that time and he directed us to his elder sister’s house, who we met with full of emotions.”
