A staunch supporter of President Muhammad Buhari, Alhaji Abubakar Rabiu, who was known for celebrating Buhari’s returns from medical trips, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

Rabiu, popularly called Abu Albarka, and known for his staunch support for President Buhari, has made it a culture to slaughter rams and party every time the president return home from abroad, especially on a medical trip.

Daily Trust reports that Rabiu had celebrated eight consecutive times by slaughtering rams to welcome the President from medical trips.

But this time, Alhaji Rabiu, who is also a prominent politician and businessman, with a large following, left the ruling APC to the NNPP.

He has also bought the form to run for the state assembly to represent Dutsin-Ma Local Government constituency under his new party.

Speaking with journalists shortly after receiving the form, Alhaji Albarka said his intention was to contribute to the people of his area.

He noted that the ruling APC has not done enough to make life easier and better for the people.

A close associate of his who pleaded anonymity said the way the ruling was killing the political ambition of its followers was one of the reasons why Rabiu left the APC.

He said, “APC has embraced consensus in its primaries and is discouraging and that was why people who have political ambition would believe they have no place in the party.”
