Operatives of Ogun Police Command have arrested three suspects for allegedly tying up a 22-year-old man, Tunji George, with rope and torturing him to death over alleged theft of an iPhone 6.

The suspects, Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa and Oluwatobi Michael, were arrested following a report at Onipanu Divisional Police headquarters in Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area.

One Bola George had told the police that her brother was accused of stealing an iPhone 6 at Keke Hotel in Iyana Iyesi Ota.

The complainant said the deceased was subsequently tied with rope in the hotel and tortured to death.

Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen that the suspects, having realised that the victim was dying, quickly took him to a hospital.

Oyeyemi said the victim died before they got to the hospital.

He said the DPO of Onipanu Division, Bamidele Job, mobilized his men to the scene.

He said two of the suspects were apprehended, while the other was arrested in the hotel.

“On interrogation, the suspects told the police that they strongly suspected the deceased as the person who stole the iPhone 6, and in order to recover the said phone from him, they decided to torture him not knowing that it will result in his death,” he said.

Oyeyemi said the corpse of the victim had been deposited at the general hospital mortuary Ota for autopsy.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
