Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old man, Shuaibu Isa, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle during a prayer session at the central mosque of Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The police commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, described the suspect, a resident of Ibadan, Oyo State, as a notorious motorcycle snatcher.

Alamutu said the suspect was arrested by the command’s operatives from the Divisional Police Office, Sagamu, for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number “SGM 557 VQ.”

He said the suspect confessed to having stolen the motorcycle and many more through a unique modus operandi from the central mosque, Ago-Iwoye, during prayer sessions.

“The suspect was arrested while trying to dispose of one of the stolen motorcycles. The case is under investigation,” he said.

Alamutu also disclosed that men of the command last Friday foiled a robbery attack after a gun battle between the police and the hoodlums in Sagamu.

He said two of the armed robbers were seriously wounded by superior police firepower.

He said one Elijah Iliasu, aged 27 years, was arrested with gunshot injuries.

“On interrogation, he confessed to the crime of armed robbery and further stated that all of them that participated in the armed robbery came from Ibadan in Oyo State to perpetrate the dastard act. Effort is on to apprehend other fleeing suspects,” he said.

Alamutu said one Toyota Venza car, two locally made double barrel guns, six live cartridges, eighteen expended cartridge shells, one big scissors, 17 android phones (belonging to the lodgers), one Java phone, ATM cards of different banks, and three bags were recovered during the incident.
