An Ado-Ekiti High Court presided over by Justice J.O Adeyeye sentenced Ojo Ayegbusi to life imprisonment on Wednesday for raping a 15-year-old girl.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Julius Ajibare, stated that the convict, charged with a lone count of rape, committed the crime when the victim was returning from school.
He said Ayegbusi accosted the girl, lured her into his room, and assaulted her.
Ajibare said the victim did not initially disclose the assault, but her father discovered the incident when she collapsed at home, bleeding from her private parts. She was rushed to the hospital, and Ayegbusi was subsequently arrested and charged. He said the offence is contrary to Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecution called five witnesses and presented three exhibits to support their case. In his defence, Ayegbusi, through his counsel Mr. E.O. Sunmonu, provided evidence and called one additional witness.
Justice Adeyeye ruled that the prosecution had proven the offence of rape beyond a reasonable doubt. Consequently, Ayegbusi was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
