A Kaduna chief magistrates’ court on Tuesday ordered that a 36-year-old unemployed man, James Austin, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Austin, who resides at Barnawa, Kaduna State, is charged with defilement.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who did not take Austin’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in a correctional centre.
Emmanuel directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 8 for DPP advice.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that Austin committed the offence on Aug. 5.
Leo said that Austin defiled the minor in an uncompleted building.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Penal Law of Kaduna State, 2017( NAN)
