The police in Lagos State have arraigned a 47-year-old man before an Ogba magistrates’ court over his attempt to rape his former wife.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinleye Funmilola, told the court that the defendant had been previously married to the complainant, Cecilia, and that the union was blessed with children.
He said the complainant alleged that all through the period of their marriage it was marred by quarrels and fighting, forcing her to file a suit before a court for the dissolution of the marriage.
He said, “The court heard both parties during the divorce suit and consequently dissolved the marriage and they started living separately. But the accused later wanted them to reconcile.
“It was while hiding under the move to reconcile with the complainant that the accused went to the complainant’s house during which he tried to have sex with her, which she did not take lightly and raised alarm which attracted neighbours.”

The defendant denied the allegation, and the Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Hughes, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case.
