Man remanded in prison for stealing Bibles, N100,000

An Akure Chief magistrate court has ordered that a 22-year-old man, Seun Ojo be remanded in Olokuta prison custody for allegedly stealing Bibles and a cash sum of N100,000 .

Ojo was dragged before the court on one-count charge of armed robbery.

The defendant was said to have committed the offence on April 28, 2019 at about 12.30-pm at Ojomo Estate, Owo within the Magistrate District.

The prosecution said the defendant , armed with one locally made muzzle loading gun and a cutlass, attacked and robbed one Regina Abraham, of two Holy Bibles, a Techno handset and a sum of #100,000 on the said date.

The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under section 401 of the criminal code, cap 37, volume 1 laws of Ondo state  of Nigeria

The plea of the defendant was not taken when the charge was read to him.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Suleiman Abdullateef, prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public prosecution.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel, held that it is a case of armed robbery which the court lacked jurisdiction over.

She, therefore, ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta prison custody pending the issuance of the legal advice.

The prosecutor, was ordered to make available both the original and duplicate of the case file to the court clerk.

While the court clerk was a also mandated to dispatch the duplicate to the DPP’s office and the original to the office of the chief registrar Ondo state for safe keeping.

The case was adjourned to June 19, 2019 .
