Man remanded for stealing foodstuff

 

A chief magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of one Oluwaseun Moses, 30, at the correctional centre over alleged stealing, breaking into a shop.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Celeb Leramo, told the court that the defendant, on April 2, about 11.33pm at No. 25 Ifesowapo Street, Nova area, in Ado-Ekiti, unlawfully broke into and entered a shop belonging to Joseph Comfort to commit felony.

Leramo added that the defendant did steal half bag of rice, valued at N18,000, 15 rubbers of  beans, valued N12,000 and eight pieces of bread valued at N2,000.

Others were fish and meat, valued at N5,000, onions and maggi, valued at N1,500. Totalling N38,500.

According to the prosecutor, the offence was contrary to Section 295 and punishable under Section 302(1)(A) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State of  Nigeria 2021 and Section 332 of the Criminal Law Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021.

His counsel, Barrister Olayinka Opaleke, urged the court to grant bail to the defendant.

The chief magistrate, Saka Afunso, ordered the defendant to be remanded at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti and adjourned the case till April 19, for mention.
