A magistrates’ court sitting in Ilorin has ordered the remand of a middle-aged man, Aminullahi Abdullahi, at the Oke-Kura Correction Centre for allegedly being in possession of a locally made pistol.
He was charged for criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms which contravenes section 3(1) of Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act Cap R11 Law of Federation of Nigeria.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Sanni, the pistol was recovered from the defendant by troops of the Nigerian Army during a stop and search operation at Oja Oba area, Ilorin.
He had earlier told the court that investigation conducted by anti-kidnapping squad, Ilorin, revealed that the defendant allegedly used the pistol with his gang, who are now at large, to terrorise citizens of Oko-Olowo area and its environs.
He prayed the court not to consider the defendant’s application for bail on the basis that his offences were not bailable.
Magistrate Aminat Shittu in her ruling ordered the remand of the suspect and adjourned the matter to February 14, 2021 for further mention.
