A magistrates’ court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has remanded one Bolaji Babaita for allegedly impersonating a judge.
The Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), sued Babaita for allegedly impersonating magistrate Imam Babatunde Popoola to defraud members of the public.
According to a direct complaint filed by Barr Taofiq Olateju on behalf of the NBA, the defendant (Babaita) specialised in impersonating, forging and procuring landed property documents with fraudulent intent using the name of the magistrate.
Olateju urged the court to order the defendant’s remand, saying it would serve as a deterrent to others from perpetrating such act.
