Man rapes woman on farm in Ebonyi

The police in Ebonyi State have arrested a 19-year-old man, Miracle Onwe, for raping and robbing a 22-year-old woman, Ruth Nwizi, on her farm.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, SP Chris Anyanwu, said Onwe was a habitual rapist.

He said the suspect had confessed to the crimes, adding that Ms Nwizi’s cell phone had been recovered from him.

Anyanwu recalled that, “The suspect had attempted to rape a minor who he grabbed in the company of two of her mates, but bystanders pursued him but he escaped.”

On the current rape incident, Anyanwu explained said, “On August 19, at about 1700hrs, the victim was farming at Aboffia village in Ebonyi LGA when a man came from the rear and pounced on her.

“The man, later identified as Miracle Onwe, an indigene of Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu LGA, pushed the victim down and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

“After the act, the suspect robbed her of her Infinix Smart 5 phone valued at N45,000 and took to his heels.”

Anyanwu further said that when the woman raised alarm, he ran into a river.

Meanwhile, the suspect told newsmen that, “This is my second time of committing the act.” (NAN)
