It was gathered that the suspect, in connivance with his friend, who is now at large, broke into the victim’s apartment at night, raped her and strangulated her.
The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists on Thursday in Abeokuta that the parents and other neighbours of the victim woke up to the sad incident, and that they invited vigilantes to the scene.
He said, while at the scene, Ikenna was seen coming down from the ceiling where he had been hiding and was apprehended and handed over to the police.
According to Oyeyemi, “On interrogation, Ikenna James whose partner in crime ran away, confessed to the commission of the crime. He informed the police that they decided to kill the victim after raping her because she recognised them.
“Ikenna’s parents, who described his arrest as good riddance, said they had given up on him as he was the black sheep of the family. They also appealed to the authorities concerned to ensure that appropriate punishment was awarded to him.”
