The Police in Ondo State have arrested a middle-aged man, identified as Soji Bakare, for allegedly taping a ten-year-old neighbour’s daughter.

The suspect, popularly known as SOJ, was caught in the act of raping the primary school pupil at the weekend.

Daily Trust gathered that the act took place at the victim’s parents’ house at Aiyeyemi street, Isolo area of Akure when her mother was away at the nearby market selling soup ingredients.

The suspect, a resident at the Edo lodge area of Oke Ijebu Akure, usually visits Isolo to see his wife selling around the area.

According to the mother of the victim, Mrs Yinka Babalola, the suspect was caught in the act and he had been handed over to the Police.

Mrs Babalola explained that her child had been taken to the hospital by the police for medical treatment and examination.

She said her husband travelled out of Akure at the time and appealed to the police authorities, the Ondo State government and civil society organisations to come to her aid.

She demanded the suspect be made to face the law for allegedly raping her child.

While confirming the incident, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mrs Funmi Odunlami, said the suspect had been arrested, saying the case would be transferred to the state CID for further investigation.

The Police’s spokesperson noted that SOJ would be charged to court immediately because of the gravity of the offence.
