Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one Ali Lawan, in Kirfi Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly raping his three-year-old daughter.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Ahmad Wakil, yesterday said the suspect’s wife, Maryam Abdullahi, reported the incident which took place on January 9 to the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters on the same day.
He said, “One Maryam Abdullahi, aged 24 years of Anguwar Doya, Kirfi L.G.A, Bauchi State, reported at Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters on the same day that her husband, one Ali Lawan, asked her to bring him a mat to lay down her daughter, Hajara (not real name) aged three years to sleep.
“Later, she came back to the room and met Hajara lying down unconscious, sweating and vomiting through her mouth, nose, and her private part swollen. On receipt of the report, a team of detectives were drafted to the scene and the victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Kirfi, for immediate medical attention. Doctors certified her to have been raped. The suspect was arrested and investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court.”
Wakil also disclosed that within the same week, the command arrested suspected rapists and kidnappers and recovered locally fabricated revolvers with ammunition, and rescued kidnapped victims.
He said the police also rescued one Shuaibu Abdulkarim, 15, after he was kidnapped by one Adamu Musa, 27, of Sabon Garin Batal, Tafawa Balewa LGA, who had voluntarily confessed to the crime, and mentioned seven others at large as accomplices.
