An Oregon rancher became a white knight last Friday when he used his horse and lasso to valiantly come to the rescue of a woman and her bike in a Walmart parking lot.
Robert Borba was loading his cattle trailer with dog food and a camping tent when he heard a woman screaming that someone was stealing her bicycle, the Medford Mail Tribune reported.
”I seen this fella trying to get up to speed on a bicycle,” Borba said. “I wasn’t going to catch him on foot. I just don’t run very fast.”
So instead, the 28-year-old rancher hopped on his horse, Long John, and chased after the man.
Victorino Arellano-Sanchez, 23, struggled with the gears and eventually gave up on the bike, instead trying to flee on foot.
Borba caught up with the bike bandit and tossed his lasso around the man’s legs, dragging him to the ground in the parking lot.
Even after trying to break free by pulling against a tree near the Carl’s Jr., Borba said he and Long John were able to keep him secure.
“Do you have a badge to do this?” Borba said that Arellano-Sanchez asked him, according to the Mail Tribune.
Eagle Point police arrived 15 minutes later.
“We’ve never had anyone lassoed and held until we got there,” Sgt. Darin May said. “That’s a first for me.”
Arellano-Sanchez was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft.
“It was truly the Wild, Wild West,” a spokesperson for Eagle Point police told CNN.
Borba said that he grew up competing in rodeos, but now works as a ranch hand and a rancher.
“I use a rope every day, that’s how I make my living,” Borba told the Mail Tribune.
“If it catches cattle pretty good, it catches a bandit pretty good.”
