The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly planning the kidnap of his cousin for N5 million ransom.
Emmanuel Idi was paraded alongside his alleged conspirator, Mohammed Kwairi, by the command for the alleged crime in Minna yesterday.
He was reported to have conspired with Kwairi to kidnap one of his cousins, Haruna Danladi, in Sabon Mariga of Rafin Local Government Area of Niger State on May 26. They were said to have been arrested by the police at the point of collecting the negotiated sum of N2.5 million ransom.
“I gave Kwairi the phone number of my cousin and we demanded for N5 million from him. He said he will give us N2.5m. We agreed on where to drop the money but we were arrested by the police when we got to the spot,” he told journalists in an interview.
The police also paraded two suspected bank fraudsters for duping a bank customer of over N6 million last month.
The suspects, Onyenaturuchi Anthony and Michael Kalu, were alleged to have conspired with one Samuel alias Samsung now at large.
Samsung was said to have posed as a customer care representative of a bank Plc in a call to one Adekola Akeem of New Busa area of Niger State claiming that the ATM card of Akeem had been blocked. He was said to have demanded the pin number of the ATM card and other account details for verification.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Niger State Police Command, ASP Muhammad Abubakar Dan-Inna, who paraded the suspects said the sum of N6.1 million was debited from two different bank accounts of the complainant.
In an interview with journalists, Kalu said he assisted his friend, Anthony, to open an account with the bank in the south but was arrested at the point of withdrawing money from the account.
He said that Anthony had earlier withdrawn the sum of N150,000 from the account, adding that “it was when we wanted to withdraw more money that the bank manager asked us to come and fill a form but we were handed over to police instead.”
