Man masterminds girlfriend’s kidnap in Abuja, collects N2m ransom

The police in Lagos are on the trail of one Ahmed for allegedly conniving with one Uchenna Daniels to kidnap his (Ahmed’s) girlfriend, Hannatu Kabri.

Daniels reportedly abducted Kabri in Abuja on March 31 and took her to Lagos.

Daily Trust learnt that the victim was released after her parents paid N2m ransom.

The case was reported to the police and a manhunt was launched for the suspects, leading to Daniels’ arrest.

Addressing journalists on Thursday at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, the spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police were making efforts to arrest Ahmed and one Biliya who allegedly participated in the crime.

He said, “On 31st of March, 2022 at about 1400hrs (2pm), intelligence gathered revealed that one Uchenna Daniels, 30, kidnapped one Miss. Hannatu Kabri, 22, in Abuja and fled to Lagos.

“Operatives of the command tracked and arrested the suspect, Uchenna Daniels, at Allen Avenue, Ikeja. The suspect revealed that the victim’s boyfriend one Ahmed and one Biliya planned the kidnap with him and collected a ransom of N2 million in Kaduna through a Bureau de Change from the parents of the victim before she was released.

“He added that they used a toy gun to commit the crime. Investigation is ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.”

The PPRO said arrest was one of the numerous breakthroughs recorded by the command in the last one month in the fight against crime and criminality within Lagos.

He stated, “Before you today we have a total of 32 suspects who have engaged in various crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, defilement, murder, cultism, etc.

“From all of these cases which we successfully cracked, we recovered a total of 11 arms, 19 live ammunition, two cars, 16 inverter batteries, six modules, cables, three ATM cards, four SIM cards and four phones.”

Hundeyin said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, assured Lagosians that the security of live and property would continue to be prioritised by the command.
