Man kills lover in Katsina over pregnancy

A 27-year-old Shafi’u Haruna, of Dorawar Natiba, Birdigau village, in Kankara local government area of Katsina state, has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend, a 14-year-old girl (name withheld) of same address.

Haruna was said to have committed the offence sometimes in December, 2019 over dispute on the ownership of her pregnancy.

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Gambo Isah, said Haruna had, during the course of investigation, confessed to have taken the victim into the bush, strangled and smashed her brain with heavy stone, killing her instantly.

He said that Haruna was arrested on March 3, 2020 at about 22:30hrs, based on a tip-off, adding that investigation is ongoing on the matter.

In a confessional video issued by the police, Haruna said: “I killed her, she came to me one Friday telling me she missed her period for two months and demanded N1,500 from me to address it.”

“I once had sex with her and told her I don’t have such amount but we should meet later. When we met, I pleaded with her but she refused; I strangled her and later used a stone to smash her head,” he added.

In a related development, on March 7, 2020 at about 11:30hrs, based on a tip-off, the Command succeeded in arresting one Kabiru Lawal, M, aged 30years of Fulani settlement, Ruwan Godiya, a notorious bandit and suspected kidnapper.

The police spokesman said nemesis caught up with the suspect when he alongside two other members of his syndicate (now at large) attacked the residence of one Nasiru Ibrahim, M, of Rugar Kadi, Ruwan Godiya village, Faskari LGA of Katsina state with intent to kidnap him but he escaped from their evil intentions.

The bandits only succeeded in taking away three bags containing his personal belongings.

In the course of investigation, suspect confessed to the crime and one bag of the luggage was recovered from his possession during search, he added.
