A yam thief identified as Dayo killed a farmer and buried his remains in a farm after he was caught with 10 tubers of yam stolen from the deceased’s farm in Odogbede village, Ido Ani in Ose LGA of Ondo State.
The late farmer was identified as Lamidi Adeyeye. It was gathered that the deceased went to his farm at about 4pm recently but noticed Dayo and challenged him.
Dayo who already uprooted 10 tubers before the deceased got to the farm, was said to have taken away six tubers and returned to carry the remaining four when the owner arrived.
According to sources, an argument ensued and degenerated into physical combat. During the struggle, Dayo overpowered the farm owner, killed him and buried him on the farm.
Hunters during a search reportedly discovered where the deceased was buried on the farm and Dayo was later fingered during investigation and was picked up. A blood stained cloth was reportedly found in his room when his house was searched.
Police spokesman, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said investigation was in progress.
