Man kills 70-year-old mother in Akwa Ibom

A 40-year-old man, Inyangake James Peter, has reportedly killed his mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter, claiming a voice directed him to do so.

Peter, who confessed to the crime, said he followed the prompting of a voice which told him to “kill her, kill her.”

He was said to have murdered his mother about 9am on April 4, at Ikpe Annang village in Essien Udim Local  Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, CSP Odiko Macdon, confirmed the incident, lamenting that cases of family members murdering their relations had become a great concern to the Command.

Macdon mentioned in a press release in Uyo on Monday that another murder suspect, one Solomon Asuquo Isaac, had also been arrested for killing his 18-year-old son, noting that both suspects would be charged on the completion of investigations.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Inyangake James Peter, 40 years old, for gruesomely murdering his biological mother, one Mma-Offiong James Peter, about 70 years old on 4/4/2024 at about 9:00am at Ikpe Annang Village in Essien Udim LGA.

“The suspect, who confessed to the crime, has been transferred to the State CID for discrete investigation. The Suspect on interrogation alleged that he had a voice saying ‘kill her’, ‘kill her’ and he decided to oblige.

“Similarly, one Solomon Asuquo Isaac of Ikot Obok Nsit in Nsit Ibom LGA who murdered his son, one Iboro Isaac, 18 years old, last year as a result of family misunderstanding, has been arrested,” he stated.

The PPRO also revealed that the
Anti-Robbery Squad of the Command on stop and search duty on April 9, 2024 arrested one Ekemini Edet Akpan of Ekpene Ikpan village, along Calabar-Itu highway for being in possession of one locally-made gun, one revolver pistol and 18 live cartridges.
