A Kano State magistrates’ court in the Kafin Mai Yaki area of Kano has sentenced one Muhammad Salisu to 16 months in prison for stealing a tricycle.
Salisu, a resident of Kwanar Dangora in Kiru LGA, was arraigned on a two-count charge of theft deception.
He was accused of using sweets to deceive drivers and riders to steal their tricycles and motorcycles.
One of the victims had reported to the police that Salisu gave him a sweet and insisted that he must take it, and that after taking the sweet, he became unconscious and his tricycle was stolen.

After the defendant pleaded guilty, the Magistrate, Muhammad Alhaji Isa, sentenced him to four months in prison without an option of a fine.
He also ordered him to pay the money for the tricycle or spend an additional year in prison.
