A Federal High Court in Kano State has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Musbahu Muhamud, to seven years jail term for defiling a 10-year-old girl.
The convict, a resident of Layin Gidan Sarki Zango, Galinje area of Ajingi Local Government Area, was found guilty on charges of sexual exploitation.
Justice S. M. Shu’aibu ruled that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the defendant without fine option.
Earlier, the prosecutor and Kano State Zonal Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mr. Abdullahi Babale, informed the court that Muhamud committed the offense on October 6.
Babale presented four exhibits, including the convict’s confessional statement and the victim’s testimony.
According to Babale, Muhamud’s actions violated Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 punishable under Section 26(1) of the same Act.
The defence counsel, I. I. Ibrahim, appealed for leniency.
