A man, Sadiq Abubakar, has been jailed six months by a Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Gwagwalada, Abuja, for stealing a phone in a hospital.
The prosecutor, Inspector Abgo Daniel, accused Abubakar of criminal trespass and phone theft under section 342 and 286 of the penal code law.
He said on 24th, October, 2020, one Yetunde Ezekiel, of Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe, reported at the Gwagwalada police station that while he was treating his sick mother in the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, the suspect stole his phone.
The prosecutor said during the investigation, the suspect confessed to stealing the phone in the hospital.
The accused who was in court pleaded guilty to the offence and asked for leniency.
The presiding judge, Adamu Isah, convicted the accused for criminal trespass and phone theft.
He then sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of a fine of N12,000.
Isah told the convict that he has 30 days to appeal the judgment if he felt dissatisfied, while he ordered that the recovered phone be returned to the rightful owner.
