Man jailed 4 years for car theft

A Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere, Lagos, yesterday sentenced a man, Oluwaseun Adeniyi, to four years imprisonment for car theft.

Adeniyi had entered into a plea bargain with the prosecution and pleaded guilty to an amended count charge of stealing preferred against him by the Lagos State government.

Justice Adedayo Akintoye found him guilty as charged and ordered that the sentence should take effect from the day the convict was remanded in prison.

The prosecutor, Mr Babatunde Sunmonnu, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 17, 2016, at Saint Dominic’s Church, Yaba, Lagos, by attempting to steal a Honda Accord car marked

Sunmonnu said the convict was arrested while in the act by the church members.
