Man jailed 14 months over misappropriation, cheating

A Kano state Magistrate court has convicted one Alhassan Nuhu of Rangaza quarters in Ungogo local government area of the state to 14 months imprisonment with an option of N12,000 fine.

The convict was arraigned before the court for two-count charge of misappropriation of funds and cheating.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) one Shafiu Malam of Rimin Kefe quarters, reported to the police that sometime in March this year the convict had criminally deceived and dishonestly sold to him a plot of land situated at Rangaza area in the state metropolis at the rate of N130,000.

The FIR added that later the complainant discovered that the convict was not the rightful owner of the plot of land sold to him.

When the charge sheet was read to the convict, he pleaded guilty and appealed for leniency.

In her ruling, the presiding Judge, Hajiya Nafisa Yusuf sentenced him to 14 months imprisonment or pay a fine of N12,000.

The court also ordered the convict to pay a sum of N130,000 as compensation to the complainant or serve six months jail term.
