Man jailed 1 month for stealing fish

An Ado-Ekiti magistrates’ court on Monday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Sunday Peter, to one-month imprisonment for stealing catfish valued at N400,000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, sentenced Peter following his guilty plea and the facts of the case.

She, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine on count one and N20,000 on count two.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the convict and one other, now at large, committed the offence on June 16, at about 1pm at Irewolede Estate in Ado-Ekiti.

Adeniyi said the accused and one other person at large conspired to commit theft and stole live catfish valued at N400,000 belonging to one Awe Omowumi from her fish pond.

The prosecutor said the first accused was the farm secretary and was given the fish pond to manage by the complainant. (NAN)
