The police in Ogun State have arrested a 52-year-old man, Jimoh Mutaliu, for impregnating his 16-year-old niece twice and procuring abortions for her.
This was contained in a statement by the state’s police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.
DSP Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested on September 21, following a report by the victim’s father at the Adatan Police Division that his 16-year-old daughter was pregnant.
DSP Oyeyemi said, “The victim’s father alleged that his brother was responsible for the pregnancy, saying he had been sleeping with her for some time and had procured two abortions for her.
“Upon the report, the police arrested the suspect and on interrogation, he made a confessional statement that he actually committed the crime.
“He also affirmed that he had procured two abortions for her with the help of a nurse.”
The police spokesman expressed worry over the rampant cases of incest in the state and advised mothers to be very watchful of their daughters.
