The police in Lagos State have dragged a 20-year-old man, Egbebiyi Temitope, before a magistrates’ court sitting in Ogba for raping his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter on Wahab Larinde Street, Mafoluku area of Oshodi.
Temitope was arraigned on a two-count charge of rape and impregnating an under-aged girl and if found guilty may be jailed 14 years.

The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the accused had raped the girl in the first instance and warned her not to tell anyone and thereafter continuously had sex with her, but that the bubble busted after the girl became ill and a medical test revealed that she was pregnant.
He said following the medical report the girl confessed to her parents that the accused had engaged her in secret sex severally.
The defendant’s plea was not taken following a motion by the prosecutor that the matter be referred to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in a correctional centre pending the DPP’s report and adjourned to July 13.
