A man has been hacked to death by suspected herdsmen on his farm in Zarama community in Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa State.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, led to a violent protest by youths who barricaded the busy East-West road.

A resident told City & Crime that herdsmen had continually grazed their livestock on their farms despite warnings for them to take the animals to government designated places.

He said the victim might have been hacked to death in the process of trying to prevent cows from entering his farm.

City & Crime reports that the Bayelsa State Government in 2021 signed into law its anti-grazing law that prohibits open grazing in the state, except in the Bayelsa Palm axis in Yenagoa where herders are allowed to operate.

Police spokesman in the state, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the operatives were working to fish out the perpetrators.
