The corpse of Saheed Dada was found inside the well late that night by a neighbour and he promptly raised an alarm. Oodua Trust learnt that it was the footwear of the deceased that was first noticed by the man who wanted to fetch water, only for him to later notice a huge object inside the well. On close examination, he discovered that it was the corpse of a man.

Some of the residents, unable to sleep, went to Okokomaiko police station to report the tragedy at about 1am. Saheed’s corpse was later removed by the police and neighbours to the public mortuary in the area.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who confirmed death to Oodua Trust said the exact picture of what happened was not yet known, adding that it was a case of drowning, but that further investigation was going on.

In a related development, a middle-aged man who went with his driver to withdraw the sum of N700,000 meant for his children school fees  in a bank in Lagos received the shock of his life when armed bandits stormed his house the following morning, demanding that he handed over the total  amount to them.

The driver, identified as Mr Agwu, now in police custody, was arrested by policemen attached to Ogudu police station after his boss reported the matter at the station. Although the deceased claimed ignorance of the robbery, his boss, Mr Augustine Chime, said they had gone to a bureau de change to convert the N700,000 into foreign currency after withdrawing it from a the bank.

The victim, whose children are schooling abroad, had intended sending the money to them for their upkeep.

According to the victim, four young men, armed with guns and other weapons, stormed his house located along Ade Ajayi street, Ogudu GRA, and collected the money after holding the entire household hostage.

When he reported the matter the following morning, the driver, according to police sources, became the prime suspect.

Mba confirmed the case and said it was being investigated.
