Man flees after raping 13-year-old student in FCT school

A yet-to-be-identified man has allegedly raped a 13-year-old junior secondary School student of a Universal Basic Education (UBE) school in Abaji.

City & Crime learnt that the incident happened on Wednesday, when the victim reportedly went to ease herself.

A resident, who resided close to the school and was privy to the incident, Ibrahim Dauda, said the suspect lured the victim to one of the abandoned toilets in the school and raped her.

He said the suspect took to his heels upon sighting some people coming, even as he said the matter has been reported at the Abaji police station.

“In fact, the girl’s father is my friend, and immediately after the incident happened, I put a call to him and joined him to rush the girl to the hospital,” he said.

Our reporter reliably gathered that the suspect threatened to stab the victim if she refused to submit herself to him.

A nurse at the health centre where the victim was taken to, who preferred anonymity, confirmed to our reporter that there was penetration on the victim.

The management of the school failed to speak when our reporter visited the school on Thursday.

However, a police source in the area, who said he was not authorised to talk to the press, told City & Crime that the principal of the school had been detained over the incident.

“Yes, the principal of the UBE school was invited and detained when the parents of the girl came to report the incident, but the investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, DSP Adeh Josephine, was yet to confirm the incident at the time of filing this report.
