Man docked over theft of turkey

A twenty-five-year-old man, Adetunji Ismail, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a life turkey at Omisanjana area of the state.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court yesterday that the defendant, on November 2, 2020, at about 0430 a.m at Omisanjana area, Ado-Ekiti, stole one life turkey valued at N35,000, property of one Obakpolo Kennedy.

According to Akinwale, the offence is contrary to, and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap C16, Vol.1, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant his client bail since it is a bailable offence.

He promised that the defendant would produce credible surety to the court and would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Adefunke Anorma, granted  the suspect  bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

She later adjourned the case to December 8th, 2020 for hearing.

In another case, the police docked one Sunday John, 35, with one other person who is currently at large for alleged conspiracy to commit felony.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, informed the court that at about 11 p.m at Okeoniyo Street, Ado-Ekiti, the defendant attempted to commit a felony.

Akinwale said the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant him bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Adefunke Anorma, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum who must be resident within Ado-Ekiti with a verifiable address.

She adjourned the matter to December 8th, 2020 for hearing.
