A man, Emmanuel Oluwafemi, has been arraigned for allegedly shooting at a police officer, ASP Adamolekun Sunday, during a disagreement.
He was arraigned on a five-count charge bothering on illegal possession of firearms and attempting to commit culpable homicide.
According to the police First Information Report (FIR), ASP Sunday, alongside his colleague ASP Adepoju Taiwo, while returning home from work in a car, tried to overtake the suspect who was riding a motorcycle.
The FIR reads in part: “He (defendant) refused and started raining abuses at him. He (Sunday) parked his car to confront the suspect who brought out a pistol and shot at them. But the pistol got hooked before he was overpowered and arrested.
“One Beretta pistol with 55 rounds of live ammunition, a pump action gun with fake licence, an unregistered Honda ladies’ motorcycle and five bunches of charms were recovered from him.”
The police further told the court that the suspect said he belonged to one Atuluse Security Organisation and conspired with one Shogo (at large) to illegally procure the Beretta pistol.
The defence counsel, Toyin Onaolapo, urged the court to grant his client bail.
In his ruling, Magistrate Adebosun however granted the suspect bail and adjourned till August 8, 2024 for further hearing.
