Man charged with beating sister-In -law to pulp

A 38-year-old man, Clement Simon, who allegedly beat his sister-in-law to a pulp was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates Court. Simon, who resides in Ungwan Boto Kaduna, is charged with assault.

The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 2 at his residence.

He said the defendant assaulted his wife’s older sister, Janet Godwin, who visited them to resolve a domestic dispute in the family.

“The defendant and his wife had a misunderstanding. The older sister came over to intervene but was assaulted by her sister’s husband,” he said.

He added that the defendant was arrested and investigation showed that the defendant always harasses and arbitrarily batters his wife.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum N150,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until March 4, for hearing. (NAN)
