Man charged for damaging naval officer’s jeep

The Nigeria Police has charged a man for allegedly hitting a naval officer’s vehicle, resulting in serious damage.

The driver, identified as Dennis, was charged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Mpape, Abuja.

The First Information Report filed in the court stated that the defendant ran into a Mercedes Benz with Reg. No. ABJ 418 TY, driven by the Navy Commodore, hitting the vehicle from behind which caused damage.

The alleged offence is contrary to Section 29 of the Road Traffic Act, 2017.

According to a document from a car dealership company in Abuja, the total cost of repairs for the vehicle is put at N3.7 million (N3, 746, 015.70).

Chief Magistrate Mohammed Zubairu adjourned the case to February 9, 2021, to enable the prosecution counsel, Adeniyi Oyeyemi, to serve the defendant with the court processes.
