Man caught snatching car with toy gun

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 25 year-old man for attempting to snatch a car along the Lekki-Epe expressway with a toy gun.
Paul Bassey had rattled occupants of the vehicle, pointing the toy gun at them and attempted to take away the car with registration Number, HB 96 AAA, when  detectives on patrol sighted him.
Bassey had also dispossessed the car owner of N8, 000. Police spokesman, Dolapo Badmos, has confirmed the arrest, saying Bassey confessed to the crime and noted he acted alone.
“I was a lone operator. I did employ the tactics of stopping private car drivers to seek lift. Once I hopped into the car, I would point the iron-made gun at their foreheads to subject them to my control.  If they cooperate with me I will only collect their belongings and let them go. But if they drag with me, I will use my stainless toy gun to hit them. I did operate very early in the morning and late at night because they won’t know that I was using fake gun to threaten them”, he said. The owner of the recovered vehicle, Mr. David Oriakhi, who followed Bassey to the RRS headquarters in Alausa, regretted offering a stranger a lift.
The vehicle, N8, 000 and a mobile phone were handed over to the owner, while Baasey was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation.
