The police in Lagos have arraigned a 20-year-old man before an Ebute Metta magistrates’ court for stealing musical equipment in a church at Mushin.
The prosecutor, Inspector D. Adebayo, told the court that the accused, Anthony Okafor, broke into First African Church, Odi-Olowo – Mushin, with the intention of stealing the church’s offering on Valentine’s Day, but stole musical equipment when he did not find money inside the offering box.

Insp Adebayo further told the magistrate that, “My Lord, luck ran against the accused when he was about leaving as he was caught by the security men on duty and consequently handed over to the police at Mushin, along with the exhibits found on him.
“At the station, the accused admitted that he went into the church to steal money but that when he did not find any, he decided to steal other items.”
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two count-charge of breaking in and stealing.
The magistrate, Mrs. F.M. Kayode-Alamu, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to April 13.
