A 27-year-old man, Promise Oliver David, on Monday, beat his 18-year-old girlfriend, Esther Pascal, to death at the Amarata suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following a minor disagreement.
The incident occurred along the Ebi’s Mechanic Road in the state capital at about 12 am Monday.
Witnesses said the deceased, who has a 2-year-old daughter, was beaten to death during a fight with her baby’s father, over a welfare issue.
Residents of the area, who declined to be named, told Daily Trust that though the quarrels between the lovers had become a usual occurrence, they were woken up at about 11.30 pm on Sunday by the loud cry of the deceased for help.
Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
Butswat said the suspect has been arrested by operatives of the Ekeki Police division while further investigation is ongoing.
