A magistrates’ court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has remanded two men, Ayodele Mubaraq and Babalola Mutiu, in the correctional centre in Ilọrin for allegedly beating one Jamiu Lawal to death.
The prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, told the court that, “Mrs Iyabo Idiyeye Adisa, who was contesting for Kwara State assembly came to the Olusan area of Offa to address the members of the community.
“While the victim was returning home from the event with some friends, one Suraju Alausa approached them and pointed a finger at him to some people, saying, ‘This is the man’.
“Thereafter, Suraju Alausa, Lekan, MD Cash, Sikiru (SK), including the suspects, started beating him with sticks and cutlasses and inflicted various degrees of injury on him.

“He was rushed to Olalomi Hospital Offa and later referred to UITH where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.”
The police said their investigation showed that the deceased had a prior misunderstanding with his attackers for cutting an electric cable with lorry conveying rams for Sallah three years ago.
The Magistrate, M. D. Dasuki, ordered their remand and adjourned the case to June 13.
