A Kano Shari’a court on Thursday sentenced a 27-year-old man, Ali Muhammed, to one year in a correctional centre for breach of trust and theft of a phone worth N98,000.
The prosecutor, Insp Abdullahi Wada, told the court that one Isah Abdullahi of Dorayi Quarters, Kano, reported the matter at the Fagge Police Station on July 7.

He said that on the same date the complainant entrusted the defendant with his Samsung handset valued at N98,000 to make calls, but that, “In the process the complainant later discovered that the defendant sneaked and ran away with the said handset.
“During police investigation the defendant confessed to have sold the phone at the sum of N70,000.”
The Judge, Ismai’l Muhammad Ahmed, sentenced the defendant to one year with an option of N17,000 fine and ordered him to pay N98,000 to the complainant.
