Man arrested with 245 pieces of fake $50 bill

Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 56-year-old man, George Ebukeebuna, with 245 pieces of fake $50 bill.

The suspect was arrested at the Trade Fair Complex in the Ojo area of the state while negotiating with a staff of a courier company on how to send the currency to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said that the suspect was a member of a fake currency counterfeiting syndicate.

He said, “The suspect, one George Ebukeebuna (56), a specialist in counterfeiting currencies, was alleged by one Emmanuel, a staff of the company, to have come to their office with a wrapped parcel to be sent to Congo Kinshasa.

“After unwrapping the parcel to ascertain the content, it was discovered to be 245 fake $50 notes. The suspect has since confessed to the crime and will be arraigned soon.”
