Man arrested over theft of sesame from FCT farm

Vigilantes have apprehended a 37-year-old man, identified as Enoch Ayuba, for allegedly stealing a bag of sesame (beniseed) at a farm in Kilankwa village in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

A member of the vigilante, Solomon Bako, said the suspect was arrested when he brought the beniseed to sell at Kwaita village market on Tuesday.

He said the suspect went to a beniseed farm belonging to one Ishaya Jacob at Kilankwa village late in the evening of Monday, and harvested one bag without the consent of the owner.

He said the owner of the beniseed went to the farm on Tuesday, morning in order harvest the beniseed only to discover that almost a full bag of it had been stolen.

“The farmer reported to one of our members in Kilankwa village and the vigilantes were kept at alert around the beniseed section of Kwaita market,” he said.

“As God will catch up with the man, he brought the beniseed to sell at the market, and the owner was also in the market when he was caught trying to sell it.  He has confessed to stealing the beniseed,” he said.

The vigilante member said the beniseed has been handed over to the owner while the suspect was handed over to the security personnel at the market.

The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Adeh Josephine, was yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing the report.
