A 39-year-old man, Dayyabu Yusuf, who was arrested for luring a 14-year-old Tsangaya pupil (almajiri) to a bush and attempting to kill him has said that his intention was to take a revenge against his teacher who spoiled his proposed marriage with woman in Jamaare LGA of Bauchi State.
Yusuf, who was paraded alongside other suspected criminals by the Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Auwal Musa Muhammad, told journalists that, “The truth of the matter is that I proposed to marry a woman and our relationship was going smoothly until when the teacher of the almajiri intruded into the matter. He told the father of the woman false information to tarnish my image and succeeded in terminating the marriage plan.
“The mother of the lady called me on phone and advised me to be careful with my friend (the teacher) about the proposed marriage.
“After I got the information my heart became unstable and the father of the woman asked me to suspend the marriage. I became worried and restive.
“Therefore, I took the child with the intention to kill him to revenge what his teacher put me through, so that his teacher will feel the pain I am going through.
“When we went to the bush, I failed to accomplish my plan to kill him because he was not responsible for what happened to me.”
CP Muhammad explained that on September 27, 2023, at about 2300hrs, one Jibril Sarkin Ruwa reported that the suspect lured one Faruku Faisal (a pupil) aged 14 from the Tsangayan Mallam Faisal into the bush and attempted to kill him by strangulating him with a rope, but that in the process the victim escaped and raised alarm.
The commissioner said that during interrogation the defendant confessed to the offence of attempted homicide, but denied that it was for a ritual purpose, saying he had a misunderstanding with Mallam Faisal and that was why he wanted to revenge on his pupil (almajiri).
