Man arrested for allegedly swapping woman’s ATM card in FCT

A yet-to- be identified man have been arrested for allegedly swapping a woman’s ATM card at the Gwagwalada Area Council branch of a bank. A witness, Fredrick Isaac, said the incident happened on Wednesday, around 9:47 am when the suspect who pretended to be assisting a woman suddenly swapped her ATM card.

He said the suspect volunteered to help the victim who tried to make a withdrawal but encountered some glitches.

According to him, the suspect approached the woman after watching her and volunteered to help her out but in the process, swapped the victim’s card.

“It was after the woman tried to insert the ATM card and the machine rejected twice, she became suspicious and quickly raised an alarm,” he said.

He said the suspect, upon discovering that some customers on queue, discovered foul play and immediately asked the suspect to present his ATM card and later discovered that the victim’s ATM was swapped.

“It was in the process that some customers at ATM stand immediately alerted the bank security men, who rushed there to apprehend the suspect,” he said.

 City & Crime observed as some bank customers pounced on the suspect, shortly before some men of the DSS came, handcuffed him and whisked him away.

 Recalled that a similar incident happened two weeks ago at a bank branch in the area when another suspect was arrested for allegedly swapping a woman’s ATM card in Gwagwalada and Zuba.

The spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh did not pick calls nor replied to text messages sent to her on the incident.
